SCORE

Our Mission Statement

One of SCORE's ongoing objectives is to increase equity in sport by increasing participation of girls and women. Programs focus on introducing girls to historically male-dominated sports, developing girls' and women's sports clubs, ensuring female representation on sports committees and delivering specific sports leadership and assertiveness training workshops.

Executive Summary

Leaders

SCORE encourages, trains and supports community members, especially youth, who volunteer their time in their own communities to organize sports activities, support school sports teams and assist clubs and committees.

These volunteers are the foundation for sustainability in the communities where SCORE operates and they become role models who often take up sporting leadership positions in the community.

Kicking AIDS Out

Since August 2002, SCORE is part of the international Kicking AIDS Out (KAO) network, consisting of sports organizations from South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Norway, all working to include HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention in their sports programs.Kicking AIDS Out! is a concept that combines HIV/AIDS awareness, life and sport skills, in fun and participatory activities.

By implementing Kicking AIDS Out activities into our existing programs rather than creating a separate program, we aim to involve everyone currently participating in SCORE activities in the communities. HIV and AIDS affect us all in one-way or the other, and we have to take action in order to change the trends of this pandemic. Children and youth can make a difference by changing their behavior and adopting healthy lifestyle alternatives and an open-mindedness towards people living with HIV/AIDS.

SCORE believes that sport and physical education is one of the best platforms from which to create awareness and accelerate this change. In this way SCORE can do its part to fight AIDS - not people with AIDS.

Women's Sports

One of SCORE's ongoing objectives is to increase equity in sport by increasing participation of girls and women. Programs focus on introducing girls to historically male-dominated sports, developing girls' and women's sports clubs, ensuring female representation on sports committees and delivering specific sports leadership and assertiveness training workshops.
